<image:title>About Sara Jean - Meet Sara Jean, Founder</image:title>
<image:caption>Sara Jean Banks is a master teacher and expert in Project Based Learning and the founder of Tangible Education. Sara Jean, also known as SJ, has over a decade of experience in the classroom working with K-12 students and has been working with students with diversity of needs and backgrounds for over 15 years throughout the country. She has led the charge to build Project Based Learning at two different high schools in Denver. She knows PBL works because she witnessed how it transformed classroom learning for some of Denver’s most marginalized students. “It is the type of learning that they have long been denied, but have always deserved.” She started her career with youth as an Environmental Educator in northern Texas for elementary students. Following her work with younger students, she moved to Hawaii and began her work as an activist working with teenagers across the state to pass tobacco control & comprehensive sex education legislation. Soon after, she earned a Master of Arts in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Denver and began teaching high school science in Denver, Colorado. Over the years, she has continued to serve the students of Denver in different capacities including: instructional coach, Dean of Instruction and as a Site Coordinator for a DPS Teaching Academy. Sara Jean continues to keep one foot in the classroom - the students are and always have been the focus of her career.</image:caption>

<image:title>Workshops - "Sara Jean guided our school through the first year implementation of Project Based Learning. As a principal, it was refreshing to work with a trainer who took the time to understand the strengths and history of the school, and build off of that. Being a master teacher, Sara Jean knew how to help the staff balance the stress of new information with the urgency of change. Our staff embraced the work, and our school showed dramatic improvement"</image:title>

<image:title>Project Based Learning - What is PBL?</image:title>
<image:caption>Project-Based Learning (PBL) is an educational approach that centers around real-world learning. Students are tasked with solving real-world problems through different, interdisciplinary hands-on projects. To start, let’s look at how project-based learning stacks up agains traditional projects…</image:caption>

<image:title>Project Based Learning - Why PBL?</image:title>
<image:caption>We live in a world that is project-based. Our students deserve an education that prepares them to be successful in the real-world. By being immersed in project-based learning in school, students develop the skills that will allow them to be successful in the world they will enter after graduation. Some things to consider: EQUITY: Research shows that project-based learning is beneficial for students who have historically been furthest away from educational opportunities. SUCCESS SKILLS: PBL develops and nurtures skills that are not traditionally valued in a test driven education system. Skills that we know are important for success in the real-world, such as public-speaking, technology, and collaboration are purposefully taught & developed. ENGAGEMENT: The most asked question from students, “When will I need this?” disappears. PBL facilitates learning alongside real-world, authentic projects that are important to kids and their community. Kids know why they are learning different skills and then immediately apply them for impact.</image:caption>
